Rationale:
Professional Development training will take place over two days (Jan. 26 and Feb. 6). The first date will be for high school teachers and the second for middle school teachers to provide instruction, resources, and practice to meet the changing Social Studies State Standards and the changing Global Studies Regents exam that is taking place this year and next.  
Funding:
The funding is through Title II Professional Development for contractual services. Acct. 490.5241.18B153.2070.B2300  
Resolution
WHEREAS the Board of Education permits Global Studies high school teachers and 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teachers to attend professional development sessions conducted in the YPS district during the 2017-2018 school year by a PNW BOCES trainer who is expert in the Social Studies Framework and new State Regents Exams, and

WHEREAS the professional development will be targeted to implement inquiry teaching and learning methods in Social Studies classrooms to best match the changing state standards and state assessments.

WHEREAS the state assessments are changing this year and next in the Social Studies, this focused training provides indepth teaching and time for guided practice.

WHEREAS teachers will obtain printed resources from PNW BOCES to help them transition instructional methods and approaches.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of Schools to enter into an agreement with PNW BOCES at a cost not to exceed $2,380.40 for two full days of training, open to all Global Studies teachers at the high school level and US History teachers at the 7/8th grade level.
