Rationale: The New York State Connect Kids Field Trip Grants program provides funding to schools through teacher grants of up to $1,000 per teacher, per class, to cover school bus transportation and admission fees to New York State parks and NYS historic sites to provide high quality, curriculum based activities to all school children in the district.
Funding: Funding is through the NYS Connect Kids Field Trip Grant which provides reimbursement for school bus transportation and park and historic site admission fees. The YPS would establish a budget account in order to pay for the transportation and historic place or park admission fees and collect reimbursement from the state for all costs (up to $1,000).
Resolution: WHEREAS the Board of Education and the Superintendent permit each of the 39 schools in the district during the 2017-2018 school year to apply for 2 grants through the New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation office in Albany in order to enhance the state Social Studies curriculum through field trip experiences that are free for children and teachers.

WHEREAS diverse field trip opportunities are available through the grant to students in grades PK-12 and in which they are aligned to the curriculum and national and state Social Studies standards and,

WHEREAS the district has collaboratively worked with local parks and historic sites to provide educational programs for students of all ages in the Yonkers Public Schools and,

WHEREAS, the Board of Education authorizes the city and school district accounting offices to establish an account to be used to pay grant approved transportation and admission fees and to receive reimbursement from the New York State Connect Kids program to cover the amount equal to allowing each school to provide two free field trips.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent to authorize an account administered through the city and school district accounting offices to pay grant expenses and receive reimbursement from the state for those expenses in an amount not to exceed $80,000.
