BOCS Worksheet - School Wires - May 2018.xlsx
Rationale: Information Technology Department – GML104B
Blackboard Schoolwires
Term – July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019
Amount of Subscription – $71,925.00
Account Number – 450-5164-100000-2630-2300 (2018-2019)
Scope – In April 2016, the Board of Trustees approved Board Report No. 16.3 in support of the transition from eChalk to Blackboard’s Schoolwires platform for the creation of the District’s new website as well as the subsites for all schools. The creation of the sites as well as the migration to this new platform was completed successfully and the sites are, and have been, up and running. Additionally, we have added 3 new subsites to the platform, one for VIVE, My Brother’s Keeper and one for Yonkers Basics, which will be coming online shortly. Schoolwires provides all of the features and functionality of a web based communications tool, including a Content Management System (CMS), at a considerably lower cost than our precious provider. The system provides online class pages for teachers to post assignments, instructional materials and classroom related information for parents/guardians and students. ParentLink, a mobile app which we hope to have available for use in the 2018-2019 school year, will provide the ability for parents/guardians to keep up with their child’s assignments, tests and class. This resolution is seeking the approval of the Board to continue the agreement with Blackboard, the parent company of Schoolwires, for the 2018-2019 school year.
