WHEREAS a proposal has been submitted to the members of the Board of Education to dedicate a tree on the property of School 16 in memory of Hira Anwar, and
WHEREAS Hira Anwar was raised in Yonkers, New York and attended Yonkers Public Schools as a first generation Pakistani American and is survived by two siblings, and
WHEREAS Hira Anwar was a vibrant and courageous 14-year-old student at School 16, known for her confidence and the joy she brought to her peers and teachers, and
WHEREAS due to her untimely passing in January 2025, an event that deeply affected the entire learning community, highlighting the profound impact she had on those around her, and
WHEREAS the planting of a tree will serve as a lasting tribute to her life, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the enduring impact of her presence at School 16, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: The Trustees have reviewed and affirm that the request meets the criteria set forth in Policy 7500 - Naming and Dedicating School District Property, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Board of Education dedicates a tree on the property of School 16 in memory of Hira Anwar.
