Rationale:
|
This is to award a general construction contract as referenced above as per the attached emergency declaration issued by the Superintendent on July 18, 2018. Bids are not required under an emergency declaration. Milcon Construction Corporation was selected by the Facilities Department because of their more than satisfactory history with the District. Milcon Construction Corporation will be performing the repairs to the school’s ground floor flood damaged ceiling tiles. Milcon’s scope of work will include abatement of ceiling tiles and insulation known to contain asbestos, installation of new ceiling tiles and reinsulating piping. Milcon’s work is anticipated to be completed no later than August 25, 2018. FOCUS POPULATION: The stakeholders of the Thomas Cornell Academy. ASSESSMENT PROCESS: School Facilities Management will be inspecting the contractor’s work and monitoring the construction schedule through on-site inspections, daily progress meetings and record keeping. PERSON ADMINISTERING CONTRACT: John P. Carr, P.E., Executive Director of School Facilities Management Department.

Ladies and Gentlemen; WHEREAS: An Emergency Declaration was issued on July 18, 2018 for Thomas Cornell Academy “Flood Damage Remediation”, and WHEREAS: Under this emergency declaration the District solicited general construction work for the prompt repair of flood damaged asbestos ceiling tiles and pipe insulation, and WHEREAS: Milcon Construction Corporation indicated that they were capable and ready to make such emergency repairs, and WHEREAS: the District has a substantial successful history with Milcon Construction Corp, and WHEREAS: Milcon Construction Corporation has indicated that the cost to the District of the work calculated and negotiated to date is not to exceed $182,000, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Superintendent of Schools is hereby authorized to award the above contract to Milcon Construction Corporation, 142 Dale Street, W. Babylon, NY 11704 in an amount not to exceed $182,000 for a term of 183 calendar days.
