Ladies and Gentlemen: WHEREAS, at its October 14, 1986 meeting, the Rotary Club of East Yonkers Board of Directors did develop and institute a LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION AWARD to be designated annually to an outstanding administrator in the Yonkers Public Schools, who has demonstrated a consistent commitment to quality education and community service, and WHEREAS, IN 2001 Mr. Ian Sherman began his educational career in the Yonkers Public Schools as a Science teacher at Commerce Middle School; following in the footsteps of his father, Harold Sherman, a retired Yonkers Public Schools science teacher. The following year, Mr. Sherman secured a mathematics position at Commerce and became Department Chair. Mr. Sherman’s administrative career began in 2006 as an assistant principal at Mark Twain Middle School. In 2009, he joined Lincoln High School as an assistant principal and was promoted in 2013 to his current position as principal. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Board of Education extends sincere appreciation and congratulations to Mr. Ian Sherman, who continues to serve with distinction with over 17 years in the Yonkers Public Schools; and AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Board of Education joins with the Rotary Club of East Yonkers in presenting the 2017-2018 LEADERSHIP IN EDCUCATION AWARD to Mr. Ian Sherman.
