Rationale: This is to award a general construction contract as referenced above as per the attached emergency declaration issued by the Superintendent on January 3, 2020 Bids are not required under an emergency declaration. The level of difficulty with the specified repairs and the full schedule of work precludes this work being done with in-house forces.
Mengler Mechanical Inc. was selected because of they have an acceptable work history with the District with low bid work, past emergency declarations and is performing the HVAC & Plumbing contract work for CIP 10815 at School 8.
Under the direction of Architect KG&D Architects, P.C. Mengler Mechanical Inc. was directed to remove approximately 650 square feet of plaster ceiling and install a new architectural acoustical ceiling at the School’s main entrance second floor hallway. The demolition work had to be performed immediately over the Thanksgiving holiday on overtime to restore the safe operation of the schools main entrance stairway and reduce the risk of additional plaster ceiling from falling and damaging the hallway sprinkler system. To maintain egress for the main entrance stairs during the school week, the new architectural acoustic ceilings had to be completed the following weekend on overtime. School Facilities Management had estimated the work to be in the amount of $40,000 t $65,000.00 range.

Resolution: Ladies and Gentlemen;
WHEREAS: An Emergency Declaration was issued on January 3, 2020 for the “Collapsed Ceiling Repairs” at Patricia DiChiaro School 8, and
WHEREAS: Under this emergency declaration the District solicited General Construction work for the prompt repairs to the School’s main entrance 2nd floor hallway ceiling,
WHEREAS: Mengler Mechanical, Inc., indicated that they were capable and ready to make such repairs in the shortest time frame, and
WHEREAS: the District has a substantial successful history with Mengler Mechanical, Inc., and
WHEREAS: Mengler Mechanical, Inc., has indicated that the maximum cost to the District of the work that they are directed to perform is not to exceed $44,949.77.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Superintendent of Schools is hereby authorized to award the above contract to Mengler Mechanical, Inc., 1689 Route 22, Brewster, NY 10509, in the amount of $44,949.77for a term of 183 calendar days.
