Rationale:
The NYS Connect Kids Field Trip Grants program provides funding to school districts through teacher grants of up to $1,000 to cover school bus transportation and admission fees to NYS parks and historic sites. The transportation costs and any admissions fees are fully reimburseable to the school district. The grant-funded historic sites program enhances the NYS and District curriculum and will be focused on both the 4th grade Yonkers History Project and National History Day program (7th and 8th grades) this year, impacting 30 schools. This is the second year that YPS Social Studies has facilitated this grant program, sending 5,000 students and teachers last year on free field trips to bring Social Studies to life for students and teachers who may not be able to afford it.
Funding:
Funding is through the NYS Connect Kids Field Trip Grant, which reimburses school districts for transportation and admission fees to state historic places and parks. The district fund this year will support grants not to exceed $25,000.
